I was moving from NYC to LA and these people assured me an easy move. The minute they get to LA it’s two guys that came to deliver. One named James and the other was unknown. The unknown broke into the truck, stole James’s money and personal items. Turns out James hired him off of craigslist when North Vans specifically said they don’t hire people outside of the company. When i called Marion thorpe to get a partial refund he BLOCKED ME. As well as the company. I hope to sue the hell out of theae people one day. I’m even going to therapy for the anxiety of that incident

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1500

I hired this company after getting about 8 quotes from other movers. I spoke with Matthew in the beginning and he went over everything in full detail. Although his price wasn't the lowest by any means. He was the most strait forward in how the industry worked so I trusted that. I saw a few negative reviews, but realizing nobody is perfect I trusted this company moving my 3 bedroom home from New Brunswick,NJ to Miami,FL . On pickup everything went smooth the guys we're great even though it was truly a lot of stuff we had. Delivery took about 5 days and upon arrival they put all my furniture where it belonged. Put everything back together and very minimal damage. I truly couldn't have asked for a better move and total cost was under my budget so that made me even happier. I would refer this company to all my friends and family.

Out of all the companies I called for a state to state move estimate North Van Lines offered the best one. The staff was kind and answered all my question curtiously no matter how many times I called. Matthew was very kind and helpful and took into consideration how stressful moving is. I appreciate the kindness an consideration that I was show. To Matthew an staff thank u for everything. I would recommend North Van Lines to anyone if they needed moving or other services.

My family used North Van Lines for a move from NY to NC with fulling packing service. We were scheduled to be packed up on June 15th between 6am-8am and had to call the company ourselves after no one showed up only to find out that they were coming the following morning instead, which they stated they "we going to call us." I provided a very accurate inventory of all of my furniture and large items in the original estimate and even stated that my 2 bedroom apartment should be considered more as a 3 bedroom because we had a room put in storage. We had to talk to the owner of the company at pickup when we were informed that our 4,400 estimate was now 10,750 and it was only through our complaining that we got it reduced to 9,375, which was still 150% over the expected amount. I paid for professional packing service and when goods arrived I discovered how poorly all the boxes were packed which I believe resulted in the majority of the damage. Although we did witness the movers actually drop a large China box from about 10 feet high off the truck because it was the first box they were trying to pull out of the middle. There were vintage China plates stacked 5-6 high with 1 sheet of packing paper around them!! The China was also loaded starting at the bottom of the box with no padding on the bottom. Our large diploma frames that cost between $160-$200 a piece were shoved in the side of wardrobe boxes with no paper or anything around them. They were all scratched up. We found a box full of smaller frames all shoved in together with a few random T-shirts thrown in for padding, but all the edges were damaged. We had some empty large plastic storage containers that we got for packing and didn’t end up using, and they were loaded empty on truck (we were charged by cubic feet of truck space not by the pound the way we were supposed to be billed). There was even an empty plastic egg crate that was full of balled up moving paper taped together with nothing inside it. Original painted artwork canvasses were randomly shoved in boxes with other things with no paper wrapping around them. My husband provided the original box and Styrofoam packaging for his 46” TV and it arrived upside down inside the box with the foam thrown on top. Many items were not put in boxes at all, they were simply just taped together which caused damage to all of them. Terrible experience with the company. We feel it is a complete scam. .

Just had my move today from NYC to ATl .My original charged was suppose to be $1200 plus $302 deposit based on 343 cubic space. Until the driver charged me for an extra 257 cubic .Because I had a furniture with glass ,He claimed that it would take more spaced.He charged me for 600 cubic space instead of 343. And charged $225 dollars for each stair case which were only 2 because the first was free.Then another $27.45 for a small boxes extra. Which brought my total to $3,445 plus I gave them $200 gratuity. Worst company ever make sure you double checked be agree.

I would give it a zero star if I could. Deceitful business practices! My estimate for a long distance move was grossly under estimated so I got suckered in and after they loaded the truck and they had me, the price almost doubled. I had no choice but to proceed because I had to vacate the premise that day and now I have to sue. I kid you not, literally caught with my pants down. And when my stuff got to Florida, every box was damaged and many damaged items. Might have been done on purpose. Consumer Beware.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $6839

In April 2013 I contacted several movers. North Van Lines had the best rate, so I chose them. I submitted a precise list of items and their exact sizes to avoid any surprises or extra charges. But the day of the move the driver handed me a bill that was $479.16 higher than the original quote! When I complained to my North Van Lines sales rep I was told they calculate cubic feet based on length markers inside the truck. This means that empty space above the items is included. But they had previously assured me that empty space in the truck is not charged. Of course, measuring cubic feet based on length and width alone is mathematically impossible. I was prepared for the final price to be 5 or possibly 10 percent higher than the quote due to various factors. But this was almost 30 percent higher. The North Van Lines office manager told me that my sales rep is a long-time employee, so there’s no excuse for such a large miscalculation. I believe they intentionally low-balled the price to get the job, then they held the items hostage until I paid in full. This promise from the home page of their web site belies my actual experience:"We guarantee our pricing, the rate will NEVER increase. Our method eliminates the questionable pricing practices that many moving companies impose on customers, while at the same time providing quality service at competitive prices.".
